「2021 建築畢業設計論壇：台灣與東南亞」邀請東南亞五國十四校建築系所，與台灣八間大學建築系所，共組交流平台，以畢業設計成果的展覽、口頭發表和評圖為媒介，探討各國設計教育的特色與遭遇問題之分析，最後在交流中進行建築教學的反省和彼此鑑借。並可藉著畢業設計的議題討論，深入了解和比較台灣和東南亞各國的文化和社會議題，提升交流的深度與廣度，擴開視界，強化設計論述的創造能力。

考量後疫情時代各地域面對實質的公共空間參與開始被迫拉開距離，高密度城市與低密度鄉村因應上的巨大差異，以及西方自十八世紀以降的布爾喬亞資產階級公共性，在當代全球資本主義強大的集體消費動能中逐步被侵蝕，使得長期作為社會與文化空間形式塑造者及反應者的建築設計必然在當下不得不面對「公共的恐懼」的新時代氛圍，以及重思當代公共空間形式與地域環境條件的轉型，以塑造新範式。故「2021 建築畢業設計論壇：台灣與東南亞」的主題訂為「公共的恐懼－當代新公共領域之重思與再現」（New Public Grounds），將藉由畢業設計深入暸解台灣和東南亞不同地方特色中的公共性思維，並憑藉畢業設計的論述生產引導朝向創新。

With the thesis design project as a medium for discussion and discourse, participants from 14 universities in Southeast Asia and 8 in Taiwan will attempt to understand each other’s positions, milieu and characteristics through an exhibition of thesis design works, along with presentations and critiques of these projects. It is hoped that participants will comprehend and understand each other’s societies and cultures, as well as deepen relationships and broaden perspectives through these processes at a time when the world is still experiencing the effects of a global pandemic.

The theme for our third forum is titled “New Public Grounds.” Since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, notions of space and distance (spacing and distancing) have taken on focus and redefinition, especially their expressions and interpretations in public space. Their varied application across different spatial environments in dense urban centres and sparse rural locations, across the rich and poor states, as well as graduated infrastructure provision, require us to rethink all aspects of social and cultural space. We convene this year to ruminate how we may live, work and recreate, and to discuss / design new premises and grounds for public space.
