借景─張璧蘭個展

 

「借景」為庭園設計、莊園設計時常用的詞彙，意為：人為造景需憑藉大自然的產物，利用創作者的視野與角度，借取自然成為另一風景。

《借景》展覽中，藝術家張璧蘭展出身體與山水結合的畫作，闡述自然與非自然的結合，並且試圖呈現觀者在觀畫時所產生的官能感與中性客觀的自然植物、圖樣的結合。其中《不毛之地》系列作品自2018年開始創作，藝術家擷取身體的局部，並搭配上自然植物，植物是路邊雜草或觀賞花，而身體覆蓋上裝飾性的花磚紋路，使之成為物件、盆器、花器等，身體成為中性、中立的物件。

《不毛之地》的概念也源自於英國藝評家約翰‧伯格在《觀看的方式》一書中提及：「毛髮與性權力有關，與熱情有關。」在歐洲的裸體畫中向來不畫女性的毛髮，只為呈現畫中女子是無慾望的，慾望屬於觀者或他人。藝術家認為這件事很有趣、顯著，卻無人提及，因此在作品中藝術家讓毛髮出現在身體上，期望觀者能看出這身體部位的出處，並希冀觀者能有不同的觀看效果與想法。

 

 

Borrowed Scenery - Solo Exhibition by Bi-Lan CHANG

 

Borrowed Scenery is a common term used in garden and manor design. Artificial landscaping requires objects borrowed from nature, with which the artist turns the “borrowed scenery” into another scenery. From the angle and perspective of an artist, I borrowed the landscape of nature as one of my sceneries.

In Borrowed Scenery, Bi-Lan Chang combined human bodies with landscapes, portraying the fusion of the natural and the unnatural, as well as the fusion of sensibility and the attempt to be neutral and objective. The Barren Land is a collection the artist has been working on since 2018. Bi-Lan extracted partial images of the human body and paired them with plants such as roadside weeds and ornamental flowers. She then covered the bodies with decorative tile textures that transformed them into objects, pots, planters, and such. The bodies then become neutral items.

The concept of The Barren Land was inspiredby English artist John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, in which he mentioned: “Hair is associated with sexual power, with passion.” Women are portrayed as hairless in European art pieces because they must be stripped of any desire - the desire that only belongs to others. Bi-Lan found this interesting and significant but it is rarely discussed. Thus, hair is shown on the bodies presented in Bi-Lan’s works in hopes that the viewers can recognize the body parts, be inspired by them in their own way and generate different opinions.
