網浪戰士X - 蕭卜、張瑞、賴金池、謝詠程 四人聯展

「網浪戰士X」取名來自網絡、衝浪及戰士。Surf在英文語境中是「衝浪」，也做為「網路瀏覽」的動詞，屬於「極限運動」（extreme spotrs / eXtreme sports / X-sports）的一種，泛指困難度高，須累積經驗，不斷地自我突破的運動。

「網浪戰士X」創作分為共同及個別兩部分，共同創作為四位創作者蕭卜、張瑞、賴金池及謝詠程，相約去衝浪的直播行為紀錄，探討虛擬與現實體驗的落差。創作者們認為，虛擬世界的空間具有「滑順」的特性，事物是可塑、可逆的，且充滿「遊戲性」與特異的「空間感知」，卻又因為一般化而顯得「無聊」，身體在虛擬世界中常常是缺席的。而從事真實的衝浪運動，試圖拾回擱置已久的身體，進行高難度的技巧運動，以趣味的方式顯露出網路世代在虛擬及真實情境的轉換中所產生的肢體不協調，至於風景上的不協調，最終帶出藝術家們對於自己在「扮演」當代「藝術家」所應具備的態度和期許。

四位「網浪戰士」在個別創作中，也將依空間感知、無聊、滑順及遊戲的關鍵概念，以挑戰精神從事創作。做為網路時代的衝浪者，創作者們隨時將感受的毛孔張開，迎接週遭事物的可能性，意識我們習以為常的世界所露出的破綻，用感覺捉浪、用技術玩浪。

Net-surfing Warrior X - Group Exhibition by Bu XIAO, Rui ZHANG, Chin-Chih LAI, Yong-Cheng HSIEH

The name “Net-surfing Warrior X” was inspired by the activity of surfing the internet and surfing, an extreme water sport that is difficult, challenging and requires training and experience.

Net-surfing Warrior X features the collective and individual works of the artists Bu Xiao, Rui Zhang, Chin-chih Lai and Yong-cheng Hsieh, who went surfing and did a live broadcast to explore the difference between virtual and reality. The artists believes that the virtual world boasts a sense of smoothness, in which objects are flexible and reversible, filled with gameplay and possess exceptional spatial intelligence; however, its relatively general and may therefore appear boring. In a virtual world, the body is often absent. Surfing in the real world requires physical involvement and phenomenal skills. The artists adopt a fun approach to demonstrating how unsynchronized the arms and legs are when switching from the virtual to real scenario of the internet generation. The incompatibility of scenery shows the artists’ attitude and expectations of their roles as a contemporary artist.   

In their individual works, the four net-surfing warriors focused on spatial intelligence, boringness, smoothness and gameplay. As surfers in the age of the internet, the artists are always up to the challenge of embracing the possibilities of surrounding objects and aware of the flaws in this world we’re so used to, using feelings to catch waves and skills to play with the waves.
